Welcome to the NVDS Website

Welcome to the Web Page of the Northern Virginia Dental Society (NVDS). The current NVDS membership totals over 1300 dentists in Northern Virginia. The Society's membership includes dentists who are general practitioners as well those who are specialists such as oral surgeons and orthodontists. A listing of the official American Dental Association recognized dental specialties and appropriate resource links is one click away under the "Links of Interest" page. Other dental information for cosmetic dentistry, dental hygiene, as well as other dental general practice web resources may also be found under the "Links of Interest" page.

The NVDS is Component VIII of the Virginia Dental Association. The purpose of the NVDS is to promote the ideals of the Profession of Dentistry and to foster professional relationships among dentists. Dentists wishing to join the NVDS should visit the "Becoming A New Member" page. The Society also seeks to safeguard the interests and well-being of the public as well as to cultivate and promote cordial relations among health practitioners in as much as they interact with the Dental Profession. Members of the public, or non-member dentists who have a need to contact the NVDS and wish to first learn more about the NVDS officers and Central Office full time staff should visit the "Meet Our Staff" page.

The NVDS is also active in the Greater Northern Virginia Community. The Dental Hygiene Program of the Northern Virginia Community College was established with the help and initiative of the NVDS, and the Society continues to play a role in providing adjunct dentist staff and volunteer support. The Northern Virginia Dental Clinic, another project launched by Northern Virginia Dental Society, offers low cost care to patients with limited incomes. Services are provided by volunteer private-practice dentists who freely volunteer their time to help those patients in need who would otherwise be unable to gain access to dental care.

Dentists practicing in Virginia are required by law to stay abreast of current developments in the profession by completing fifteen hours of continuing dental education per year. A calendar of Professional Continuing Education Programs is listed in the "Calendar of Events" page. The wide range of activities by the NVDS is administered by an extensive network of volunteer committees. A listing of the committee structure is included under the "Committees" page.
