ss at Lross@nvds.orgSYNOPSIS: Advances in metals and efficiency in root ca
nal treatment have come a long way in the past 10 years. More flexible end
odontic files available today are capable of negotiating tighter and curve
d canals with greater ease. The increased flexibility of files and additio
nal modes of operation including continuous and reciprocating rotations al
low for a more predictable instrumentation of the canal with less unwanted
effects of ledging and transportation. Cone beam computed tomography (CBC
 T) is more prevalent in general and specialty dental offices today. CBCT o
ffers many advantages in terms of more dimensions\, diagnosis\, treatment
planning decisions\, and surgical planning\; all of which may decrease tre
atment time and enhance the patient and practitioner experience and relati
onship. Participants in this course will gain appreciation in learning to
use various Niti file systems and techniques to tackle molar root canal tr
eatment. Participants will also gain an appreciation for the need for loup
es and the usefulness of pre-op CBCT imaging in endodontics.COURSE OBJECTI
VES:Detailed look at reading CBCT images for root canal treatment and diag
nosis.Detailed description of endodontic technique for endodontic access\,
finding canals\, and using continuous and reciprocating file systems.Root
Canal treatment emphasizing efficiency with fewer files.Importance of usi
ng magnification during root canal procedure (participants must bring thei
r own loupes and light source).Patient safety during root canal procedure.
Review of local anesthetic techniques including difficult-to-numb teeth. In
fection and pain management of pre- and post-root canal treatment.Provide
a hands-on live patient root canal procedure experience.ABOUT THE COURSE I
NSTRUCTOR: Dr. Fernando Meza is a 2002 graduate of the University of Conne
cticut School of Dental Medicine. He is the recipient of the Dentsply-spon
sored Student Clinician Award. Dr. Meza received his Certificate in Endodo
ntics from Temple School of Dentistry in 2004 and during residency conduct
ed research on the Biolase Waterlase All-Tissue Laser to explore the disin
fecting capabilities of the laser on bacterially infected root canal syste
ms. His research led to a publication on the Waterlase in the Journal of t
he American Dental Association in 2007. He has been practicing endodontics
in Northern Virginia since 2004. He has been an active member and officer
of the Northern Virginia Dental Society where he also helped to organize
community outreaches\, such as the MOM Project\, to serve the underprivile
ged. He served as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Endodontics on the De
an’s Faculty at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry from 2005 t
o 2017. Dr. Meza has also lectured nationally and internationally and prov
ided in-office training to endodontists throughout the USA and Canada. The
