In-Person Continuing Education

Registration will open August 2026

Description:

This program is a significant update; it reviews what we have learned since 2017 when many states required opioid training. Virginia along with many other states requires all providers with a DEA take a Pain Management, Palliative Care and Addiction Education  training.  It can also be applied towards the Federal MATE Act 8 hour requirement. It is designed for all prescribers of controlled substances from the dental student to veteran about to retire.   Through literature reviews, case studies and professional experience you will understand how to effectively manage your patients pain, your own daily pain while at the same time  combating the current opioid epidemic.

Objectives:

  • Review state and federal MATE requirements for prescribing controlled substances;
  • Establish a pain management plan for your office;
  • Utilize appropriate prescribing practices;
  • Manage acute pain;
  • Prevention, screening and signs of addiction;
  • Responses to abuse and addiction
