Synopsis:

In this presentation, we will explore current advances and challenges in implant dentistry.  A particular focus will be on the decisions we make in the process of care delivery and how those impact our clinical success.  Particular attention will be paid to the concept of therapeutic longevity and what success truly means.  A clinically illustrated approach involving single tooth, full arch and complex dental implant scenarios will be used to explore immediate therapy and clinical longevity.

Course Objectives:

  • Appreciate how fundamental rules for treatment planning aid in attaining lasting implant therapy success.
  • Understand what dental implant success is in context of clinician, patient, implant and prosthesis
  • Be able to identify the current challenges facing dental implant therapy success and what steps can be taken today to enhance treatment outcomes.

About Our Presenter: 

Dr. Lyndon Cooper is the Dean of the Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of Dentistry and Harry Lyons Professor of Prosthodontics.  He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics and served as the 2010 President of the American College of Prosthodontists.  He previously served as Associate Dean for Research (UI Chicago), Chairperson and Graduate Program Director (UNC Chapel Hill) and President of the American College of Prosthodontists (2010).   Dr. Cooper remains active in research and patient care and is focused on enhancing dental education, providing for dental therapeutic excellence, and improving access to oral health care.
